Michael was born in Germany and grew up in Scotland. He was a product of Elgin City FC youth academy and came to Oklahoma in pursuit of an education. While playing at Northern Oklahoma College and Northeastern State University Michael was awarded 2 All-conference, 2 All-region and Academic All-American honors. He then assisted the NSU Riverhawk's Men's Soccer Program to a national ranking and an appearance in the sweet sixteen of the NCAA DII National Tournament, while completing two Masters Degree's and captaining the Tulsa Athletics.
